For almost a decade, Minnesotans for Safe Driving have sponsored and implemented Driver Impact Panels for teens and their parents. These panels have offered parents and teens an opportunity to hear first-hand about the senseless and tragic circumstances involving traffic fatalities and the life-long impact and suffering caused by them. The speakers used on the panel are injured crash victims, surviving family members of those killed in crashes and sometimes offenders who caused the crash. The crashes include distracted driving, reckless driving, and alcohol impairment. These panels help motivate those beginning their driving careers and their parents to drive safer and on the trip home from the panel, the experience can start a very good dialog about driving laws, safety and limitation for those first years on the road . The most often heard comment after a panel is “wow, this could really save a life.
Any parents who desire to have their driver-age teenager attend one of these panel please call Minnesotans for Safe Driving office, 952-221-7393 for dates and location of the panels. There is no cost, but a donation would be appreciated. These panels are presented in the metro area.
